• Full color, photo-realistic pictures of every species in the database show cross-sectional appearance. Some photos show multiple cuts, as well as color and texture variations
  
  
• Majority of pictures prepared specifically for The Wood Explorer by the USDA Forest Products Laboratory (Madison, Wisconsin)
  
  
• Low-magnification cell micrographs (generously supplied by R. Bruce Hoadley from the book, "Identifying Wood") provide additional data on nearly 160 woods.
